Count Simple Tire LLC as one of the big winners on Cyber Monday. During a single, mid-day hour on Nov. 27 the online tire retailer recorded a quarter-of-a-million dollars in revenue.
Simple Tire says there were clear trends during the day.
1. Smartphone shoppers ruled the day. Simple Tire says it increased its sales via smartphones by 400% year-over-year.
2. Consumers made bigger purchases. The average order value for mobile customers was $450. Desktop customers spent an average of $439. Simple Tire says the higher average order value on mobile is largely attributed to the sale of premium-branded tires from makers such as Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli. (As a comparison, Adobe Digital Insights reported the average order value on Apple iOS for Cyber Monday was $123; it was $110 for Google Android devices.)
"We've dedicated a lot of time and resources into optimizing SimpleTire.com across all devices, particularly on mobile, to create a seamless and more convenient experience for shoppers," says Simple Tire CEO Andy Chalofsky. "As a result, we've seen an increase in mobile purchases where about half of SimpleTire's business now comes from smartphones and tablets combined."
Here's some facts and figures about Simple Tire's 2017 Cyber Monday:
The most popular operating systems: Apple's iOS wins with 52%, compared to 46% for Android.
The most popular browsers: Safari, with 49%, beats Google Chrome at 41%.
Mobile demographics: Customers ages 45+ made up the majority at 40%, with a large chunk being 65 years and older. Millennials (ages 25-34) accounted for 26% and customers between the ages 35-44 represented 25%.
"This year we also saw incredible spikes in sales at certain hours of the holiday period. For example, during a mid-day hour on Cyber Monday, we recorded over $250,000 in revenue," says Simple Tire Chief Marketing Officer, Kevin Burke.
SimpleTire is projected to exceed $500 million in annual sales for 2018.
