Last year's event drew more than 30 vendors who gave away over $50,000 in tools to attendees.

Technicians Service Training (TST) is holding its 16th annual Tech Training Big Event on March 30, 2019, at the Westchester Mariiott in Tarrytown, N.Y.

The cost is $110 for TST members, $160 for non-members (before Feb. 11) for three training seminars, a hot breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day and a chance to win tools (thanks to the event’s sponsors). Plus, all attendees will receive a free Android tablet worth $60, which comes loaded with three full-color manuals and a newsletter.

After Feb. 11, the cost is $125 - $175, and after Feb. 24 the cost is $150 - $200. Registration closes on March 18.

The event’s keynote speaker will be Vin Waterhouse of the Waterhouse Group. Featured speakers will be Kris Lewis, director of training for the Automotive Training Group (ATG), who will speak about "Direct Injection & Systems Diagnostics;" John Anello, owner of Auto Tech on Wheels (ATOW), who will discuss “Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS);" and John Thornton, who operates Autotrain Inc., a mobile diagnostic business in the Chicago area, who will cover the topic of "In Cylinder Pressure Transducer Diagnosis."

Topic 1: "Direct Injection & Systems Diagnostics"

Lewis says, “Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is simple in design but difficult to diagnose. This is why ATG has adapted a ‘high level indicator’ approach for ruling out possible causes before parts come off. This seminar was built by analyzing actual diagnostic struggles and documenting the shortest diagnostic paths for these systems. Because of this practical approach, you won’t be buried in useless engineering detail – only useful facts that you can measure and that will help guide your diagnostic path.”

In addition to decades in a shop focusing on drivability and electrical systems, Lewis has worked with an automotive radio program and mentored many technicians through in-shop training before transitioning into local training and a hotline service in the mid-2000s. In 2011, he joined ATG as a part-time trainer. Since then he has traveled the U.S. and Canada delivering ATG training seminars, focusing on practical strategies that he feels are best learned through great interaction with the audience. Lewis is an ASE Master L1 A9.

Topic 2: "Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)"

This seminar will familiarize attendees with information on current and future vehicles. It will offer system information and a high energy presentation with a detailed case study.

Anello’s passion for automotive vehicles has driven him to work on cars for close to 40 years. His business provides repair garages with on-site diagnostic support for problem vehicles in their shop without having to tow the vehicle to a dealership. “In the last 24 years, my business has grown to support 1,200-plus repair shops, 400 body shops and 50 transmission shops,” says Anello, who is an ASE Master L1.

Topic 3: "In Cylinder Pressure Transducer Diagnostics"

Today, in-cylinder pressure transducers are changing how technicians evaluate the mechanical condition of an engine. Thornton will discuss how to interpret cranking and running compression patterns captured by an in-cylinder pressure transducer. Both good and bad will analyzed. Exhaust path restrictions, intake path restrictions, cam timing issues, leaking valves, broken valve springs and much more.

Thornton assists his repair shop customers with both engine and transmission drivability concerns, module programming, BUS communication issues, and electrical diagnosis. He has over 30 years of diagnostic experience and is an ASE certified Master Technician with L1 certification.

The training day runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For hotel reservations call (800) 882-1042.

You can sign up online at www.TSTseminars.org or send a check to: TST, 11 Lupi Plaza, Mahopac, NY 10541. For more information, call (845) 628-6928.
