China Wants To Bring These Cars Into Your Bays

There is only one vehicle manufacturer from China with a booth at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) -- Guangzhou Automobile Group, or GAC for short. It is the second consecutive year the company has displayed its vehicles at the annual event in Detroit.

The latest winter tire offering from Omni United (S) Ptd. Ltd., the Radar RW 5, fits passenger cars, CUVs, and SUVs, and is made from a silica tread compound designed to give extra grip on snowy, slushy, and wet roads.

Yokohama Tire Corp. is continuing its original equipment fitment streak with Mazda Motor Corp. The 2015 CX-5 (pictured) features Geolandar tires, and Mazda’s newest compact crossover, the CX-3, will roll on Avid S34 tires.

OE Tire Manufacturers See No End in Sight to the Popularity of SUVs and CUVs

Expect to stock, and sell, more do-it-all tires for today’s want-it-all consumers. Crossover utility vehicle (CUV) owners demand comfortable, smooth rides; but they also want to haul lumber from the hardware store on the weekend. They expect the fuel-efficiency of a sedan, but are looking for more space so there’s room for neighbor kids to tag along on an afternoon adventure. They like the view from seats that are higher, but don’t want the rough ride of a truck. In short, they want it all.

For consumers shopping for all-season tires with maximum tread life, Michelin’s lineup now includes the Defender LTX M/S, with fitments for 1/2- and 3/4-ton pickups, plus crossovers and SUVs.

Michelin replaces the LTX M/S2

The newest tire in Michelin North America Inc.’s fleet isn’t designed to be an original equipment star. But that’s not to say the tire manufacturer isn’t expecting big things from the Defender LTX M/S. Michelin believes the Defender LTX is destined to become its top selling light truck tire — in part because it’s replacing the company’s current No. 1 LT tire.
