Pep Boys is getting into the mobile tire business, but it's offering even more — automotive services from batteries and oil changes to check engine diagnostics.

Pep Boys Offers Tires and Automotive Services With a Mobile Crew

The Pep Boys — Manny, Moe & Jack are taking their automotive services on the road. Icahn Automotive Group LLC says the brand is offering preventive maintenance, auto repairs and tires from a trailer and mobile service bay. It's called the Pep Boys Mobile Crew.  

Typical e-commerce websites selling tires often limit users to a drop-down menu of pre-selected tire terms without considering the driving and lifestyle preferences of shoppers. To find the best tire, consumers need to consider not only their vehicle's make, model and tire size, but also how it supports their everyday routines and hobbies.

Sears Sells Tires Online Using Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has come to the tire industry by way of Sears Auto Centers. With the pilot launch of the retail chain's "Digital Tire Journey" Web app, consumers can identify the appropriate tires to fit their driving preferences.

Within 18 Months, We Will See if Sears' New Strategy Pays Off

“We will learn a lot over the next 18 months about the acceptance of the brand,” said Brian Kaner, president of Sears Auto Centers, during my interview with him last week. He was talking about the new DieHard tire line, which includes not only the DieHard Silver Touring A/S, but also -– tentatively -- light truck and ultra-high performance and high performance tires as well.

The Sears-Michelin partnership helped to bring radial tires to the United States.
