Myers Industries makes leadership changes

July 2, 2014

Same corporation, same title, different business. Myers Industries Inc. says Todd Smith will step out of his role as vice president and general manager of the Myers Distribution Segment and step into the role of vice president and general manager of Akro-Mils, the company's core material handling business subsidiary.

He will be replaced by Alex Williamson, who comes to Myers from Seaman Corp., where he was co-president.

In his new position, Smith will focus on executing strategic strategies for Akro-Mils and Jamco Products Inc., specifically "to profitably grow their storage and safety products business by strengthening their competitive advantage through broader distribution channels for healthcare, automotive and industrial markets."

Smith also will drive manufacturing efficiencies and global sourcing initiatives.

Under Smith's leadership, the Distribution Segment successfully streamlined its United States operations from more than 30 branch locations to four strategically located distribution centers, resulting in reduced shipping costs and improved customer order fulfillment. He is familiar with Myers' material handling operations and has an extensive background in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement project implementations.

Smith joined Myers Industries in 2007 from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he held the position of operations manager.

As the new vice president and general manager of the Distribution Segment, Williamson will be focused on strategic growth for Myers Tire Supply, Myers Tire Supply International and Patch Rubber Co. The strategic growth platform for the Distribution Segment includes "expanding market reach and global sourcing as well as offering innovative and niche products to the tire, wheel and under-vehicle service industry."

Prior to joining Seaman, Williamson held senior leadership positions at Noveon Inc. (now The Lubrizol Corp.). He has more than 24 years of experience in business management and an extensive background in marketing, sales, chemistry, and product engineering.
