The 32 team buses used by the U.S. men’s national soccer team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil are equipped with premium bus tires from Continental Tire the Americas LLC.

The company, which is an official sponsor to the World Cup competition and the U.S. Soccer Federation, says its third-generation ContiGol Urbano bus tires are specially developed for the Brazilian market.

The ContiGol Urbano was specially designed to meet the requirements of urban traffic in Brazil, such as quick stops and fluctuations in speed, according to Continental. With a new rubber compound, the tire presents a 30% improvement in mileage compared to its predecessor. All of the World Cup buses are fitted with the 275/80 R 22.5 version of the ContiGol Urbano.

“We are proud, that our premium bus tires are used on the team buses during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The ContiGol ensures maximum safety for the world’s best footballers during the tournament as well as passengers and drivers in everyday life,” says Dr. Andreas Esser, head of the business unit commercial vehicle tires at Continental.

Continental supplied the bus tires at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
