Top 10 finish for Radar Tires at Bark River

June 16, 2014

Following a near podium result on Saturday, Radar Tires was quite optimistic on Sunday afternoon. Hoping to repeat and improve on Luke Johnson’s fourth place finish, the tire brand and racer Cam Reimers fought for a ninth place finish during Sunday’s TORC: The Off Road Championship Throwdown in the U.P. Part 1.

Reimers, driver of the No. 21 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, qualified 11th for Sunday’s race. Reimers spun on the opening lap on the backstretch of the 1.5-mile circuit and watched the entire field pass. He was able to rebound to ninth position by the end of the 10-lap race.

Johnson, driver of the No. 14 Project648 Motorsports Nissan Frontier PRO Light, qualified in sixth position. Per TORC rules, Johnson started from the pole position due to the inverted grid. While leading the race on the opening lap, Johnson attacked the wet track too aggressively and spun. He was able to regain his composure and return to the field in the 10th position. After battling back to fifth, Johnson’s truck, nicknamed Becky, shut off and he then coasted to a safe location. After turning off all pumps and fans, Johnson was able was able to restart the truck after losing nearly a lap. He recovered to complete the race and finish in 17th position.

Ian Harris, driver of the No. 22 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, started from the 17th position. Harris was hit on the opening laps and dropped several positions. Able to regain his momentum, Harris battled for position throughout the race and finished in 15th place.

“It was a very trying day at Bark River,” said Gary Blalock, Radar Tires Motorsports Manager.  “Luke, Cam, and Ian all had first lap issues but they all finished the race and did their best to salvage a decent result. Anything can happen in short course racing and today it did! I’m glad we were able to get the race in before the rain came today. Luke, Cam and Ian are all making progress and moving in the right direction. It was a learning experience this weekend, one that will definitely help us when we come back to Bark River in July.”

Radar Tires used the LT265/75R16 and 32X11.50R15 Radar Renegade R5 tires for this two-day TORC event.

Next up for Radar Tires in TORC competition is the Big House Brawl in Crandon, Wis., on June 28-29.
