Reifen 2014: Innovation from Yokohama and Pirelli

May 28, 2014

If you thought previews and daily coverage of the Reifen 2014 International Trade Fair were all you would get, think again! Thanks to John Stone, our representative at the show, we also have special reports.

Today's special update is on Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.

Stone, with his European sensibilities, is the perfect reporter to cover the fair for Modern Tire Dealer. He also writes European Notebook for MTD.

This is Stone's fifth report from Essen, Germany, which is where Reifen 2014 is being held through May 30.

The organizers of Reifen 2014 announced last night (Tuesday, May 27) that the first day of the show had been a success despite the bad weather, and over 20 of the largest tire manufacturers were exhibiting at the event.

Also, details of the awards ceremony held on Monday evening prior to the show were revealed, with Yokohama taking the coveted "Innovation Award" in the Technology and Products Category. I will be visiting the Yokohama stand later today to get a reaction to receiving the top award from the company.

(The award was presented in recognition of innovative "simulation" technology developed by Yokohama Rubber researchers working together with a team of researchers at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, the research arm of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.)

Pirelli also has announced the launch of a new range of truck tires, and a special report on these new products will be included in my next report later today.
