Road Atlanta Drift round is Aasbo’s First Podium, Forsberg’s Second

May 12, 2014

Hankook Tire drivers Fredric Aasbo and Chris Forsberg finished second and third place respectively this past weekend at Formula Drift round two: Road To The Championship at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

Aasbo’s second place finish is his first podium of the season.  Forsberg’s third place finish is his second podium of the 2014 season following his Round One first place win at the Streets of Long Beach this past April, keeping him in first place in the 2014 Championship points race.

Racing began in front of full spectator stands and continued into the night with intense battling all day long.  Aasbo in his Hankook/Papadakis Racing Scion tC and Forsberg in his Hankook/CFR Nissan 370Z fought their way through the pack making it to the final battle late in the day.  Aasbo matched up against Vaughn Gittin Jr. for the finals for a close run that ultimately secured him a second place finish.  Forsberg’s results secured him a third place podium finish and a commanding lead in the 2014 Championship points standings.

“Road Atlanta is one of the highest speed courses in the championship, but my Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires gave me the grip and confidence I needed to take it all the way to the podium.” said Aasbo.  “We’re moving up in the standings and I can’t wait for Round 3 in Miami!”

Hankook’s Chris Forsberg continued his 2014 season success at Road Atlanta securing another podium and making him one to watch going into Round 3 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“It didn’t matter if the track was wet or dry my Hankook Ventus R-S3’s were hooked up all night, constantly providing me the grip needed to lay down some of the fastest entries in Formula Drift.” said Forsberg.

All of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers race on Hankook’s Ventus RS-3 Extreme Performance tire.  The Ventus R-S3 is designed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan enthusiasts looking for race tire-like traction on the street or for use in autocross, drifting or track events.

“Formula Drift Atlanta is only the second race of the season and we already have captured three podiums; a first place win at the Streets of Long Beach and now second and third place podiums.  This weekend’s two additional podiums give Hankook a commanding points lead in the 2014 Formula Drift Tire Manufacturer Cup championship,” said Paul Jho, Hankook Tire Motorsports Marketing Manager.  “Fredric, Chris and their teams did a great job this weekend under some difficult conditions. Well done!”

The Formula Drift series heads to Florida’s Homestead-Miami Speedway on May 30th and 31st for Round 3: Miami Heat.
