Radar Tires rebounds in Charlotte

April 28, 2014

Saturday proved to be a better race day for Radar Tires racers with a pole position and sixth place finish at the TORC: The Off Road Championship PRO Light race in Charlotte.

Radar Tires’ top finisher on Saturday was Luke Johnson, driver of the No. 14 Project 648 Motorsports Nissan Frontier.  Johnson started in ninth position of the 21 truck field. He was running strong until he was spun on Lap 5 and dropped to the very back of the pack.  Johnson climbed back through the field and reached fifth position on Lap 14.  In a dash to the finish, Johnson dropped to sixth.

Cam Reimers, driver of the No. 21 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, qualified third in his group.  Per TORC rules, the field was inverted and Reimers started Saturday’s 15-minute race from the pole position.  Reimers was shuffled back to fourth position early but maintained a top-five run throughout the majority of the race.  On Lap 13, Reimers spun and dropped in the field, hoping to complete the race, he continued but at a reduced pace.  Reimers later retired with a broken driveshaft but was awarded a 12th place finish.

Ian Harris, Radar Tires’ top finisher on Friday in 13th, started from the 18th position today.  Driving the No. 22 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, Harris lost the ignition and stopped on Lap 13.  Unable to complete the event, Harris was ranked 15th in class.

“It was a roller coaster of a day, but that is typical in TORC,” said Gary Blalock, Radar Tires Motorsports Manager.  “Cam started from the pole and was running strong until that late race incident.  Luke powered through the field twice, earned a sixth place and the best finish for Radar Tires in TORC this year so far.  Ian’s bad luck hit today with that late race ignition issue.

“I’m pleased with the performance of the Radar Renegade R5 tires,” continued Blalock.  “We have had no tire issues this year and Luke proved that the R5s have the performance to challenge the field twice in a race.  The Project 648 Motorsports and Cam Reimers Motorsports teams are making strides in their performances and that was evident this weekend.  Results will come and we’re heading in the right direction.”
