RMA: No surprises in truck tire sizes

The top three most popular truck tire sizes in 2013 were the same as they were in 2012. And 2011. And 2010. And....

Well, you get the picture. According to the preliminary edition of the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) 2014 Factbook, 295/75R22.5 was the most popular original equipment and replacement size in the United States last year. It was followed by 11R22.5 and 11R24.5.

Here is the breakdown of the top four sizes, with the percentage of the total each represents.

1. 295/75R22.5     37.9%    30.2%

2. 11R22.5             27.7%    22.7%

3. 11R24.5               8.2%    10.8%

4. 225/70R19.5       6.3%      5.7%

The fifth most popular OE size, at 2.3%, was 255/70R22.5. The top five sizes represented 82.5% of total OE shipments.

The fifth most popular replacement size, at 5.6%, was 285/75R24.5. The top five sizes represented 74.9% of total replacement shipments.
