Pirelli sets price hikes

May 30, 2001

Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has become the latest tire manufacturer to announce coming price increases.

The Italian-owned company will hike all of its passenger and light truck tire prices up to 5% starting July 1.

The declaration comes on the heels of price hikes announced earlier this month first by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., then Michelin North America Inc. and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS).

Goodyear will boost prices on most of its Goodyear, Kelly and Dunlop passenger and light truck tires 4% on June 15; the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker also will increase its Aquatred 3 passenger and bias light truck tire rates 5% the same day.

Michelin will hike prices on its Michelin Americas Small Tires (MAST) brands up to 5% on Aug. 1.

And BFS will raise prices on its Bridgestone and Firestone brand commercial medium truck and bus radial tires 4% on July 1; prices for counterpart Dayton brand units will jump 3% at that time, as well.
