Mohawk Rubber Sales of N.E. celebrates 70th anniversary

Nov. 12, 2002

Mohawk Rubber Sales of N.E. Inc. is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, reports Patrick McGeoghegan, company president.

The family-owned and operated distributor of tire shop supplies and retread equipment was founded in 1932 when Dan Ahern, Mohawk Rubber Co. regional manager, asked Max Stone to set up shop selling reliners, patches, boots and repair materials to local tire retread shops. The company grossed $6,500 during its first year.

When Ahern's son retired in 1991, he asked McGeoghegan, a long-time friend and industry competitor, if he would like to purchase the company.

Since then, McGeoghegan and his son, Brian, have dramatically increased the company's customer base and sales. It has grown from six employees and 800 customers throughout New England in 1991 into an international firm with 50-plus employees offering more than 10,000 products and services to over 3,000 tire dealerships and repair shops.

Patrick McGeoghegan says that the company's philosophy has never changed, "We conduct our business as a family."

"We build relationships with our clients that are based on a commitment to helping them succeed."
