Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has awarded scholarships to six recent high school graduates, all of whom are the children of the company's employees.
The Roy V. Armes Scholarship is a renewable scholarship of $5,000 given to a a high-achieving student who plans to attend a four-year institution and pursue a career in business or engineering. The award is named after the former chairman, CEO and president.
Mitchel Schroeder is the 2020 recipient. Schroeder graduated from Ottawa-Glandorf High School in Ottawa, Ohio, and plans to study mechanical engineering at Ohio State University. He's the son of Roy and Kim Schroeder; Kim works in Cooper's distribution and operations planning business in Findlay.
Five students were awarded Cooper Centennial Scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each. The award was created in 2014 to commemorate the tiremaker's 100th anniversary. The scholarship is open to high school seniors who plan to pursue degrees at a college, university or technical school.
2020 Centennial Scholarship recipients are:
- Madeline Fulk is a graduate of Findlay High School and plans to attend Kent State University to study architecture. She is the daughter of Joshua and Beth Fulk; Beth is an engineer for Cooper in Findlay.
- Abigail Hatch is a graduate of Liberty-Benton High School in Findlay, and she plans to pursue a degree in pharmacy at the University of Findlay. She's the daughter of Robert and Arika Hatch; Robert works in original equipment sales in Findlay.
- Kyleen Hewitt is a graduate of Fouke High School in Fouke, Ark., and she plans to study agribusiness at Southern Arkansas University. She's the daughter of Jimmy and Crystal Hewitt; Jimmy is a section manager at Cooper's Texarkana factory.
- Madeline Parmelee graduated from Liberty-Benton High School in Findlay and will study biology at Siena Heights University with the intention of going to medical school. She is the daughter of Ray Parmelee and Nicole Wortman; Ray is a Cooper Master Black Belt in Findlay.
- Maggie Rump is a graduate of Ottawa-Glandorf High School in Ottawa, Ohio, and plans to attend Ohio State University at Lima as a pre-med student. She's the daugther of Brad and Kara Rump; Brad works in Cooper's testing services in Findlay.
