Nokian To Resume Tire Production in Russia April 6

April 7, 2020

Nokian Tyres plc will restart production at its tire factory in Vsevolozhsk, Russia, as scheduled on Monday, April 6.

In Russia President Vladimir Putin issued a weeklong national holiday beginning March 30 to encourage people to stay home to slow the spread of COVID-19. Putin has extended that break to continue through the end of April, but Nokian says the order doesn't apply to its Vsevolozhsk factory "as it is a continuously operating enterprise and it is thus allowed to continue normal operations."

As a result, Nokian's tire production in Russia will restart on April 6.

The company's newest factory, in Dayton, Tenn., closed March 27 and is expected to remain shuttered for a minimum of two weeks, or April 10. At the time Nokian announced the closure of its U.S. plant it said the temporary closure "will not significantly impact the company's projected production volume or regional growth plan."
