Michelin Adds Light Mechanical Maintenance Service for Trailers

Feb. 25, 2020

Michelin North America Inc. has introduced a light mechanical maintenance service for trailers. The new offering is called Michelin Mechanical Care.

The company describes the service as a “consistent and simplified solution to outsource scheduled light mechanical maintenance for trailers.” The service uses technology from Decisiv Inc., a Virginia-based provider of a cloud-based service relationship management (SRM) platform for the commercial vehicle, heavy equipment and industrial markets.

Michelin announced the new service at the American Trucking Association’s 2020 Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition going on now in Atlanta, Ga. Feb. 24-26.

The service works in conjunction with the Michelin Commercial Service Network to coordinate trailer light mechanical service needs. Through a network of technicians, the service provides consistent quality, standardized pricing and asset visibility and consolidated invoicing, according to Michelin.

Michelin Mechanical Care includes DOT annual inspections and preventative maintenance and repairs for brakes, wheel ends and tires, lights, electrical, mud flaps, and body repair. Currently available in select areas, this service will be expanded to additional markets throughout 2020.

The light mechanical maintenance offering is part of Michelin’s Services and Solutions global division. The company says the division aims to provide innovative solutions for sustainable connected mobility. Its focus is fleet management, connected mobility, tire services and a digital services platform.

"Services have been part of Michelin’s DNA for more than 125 years," says Ralph Dimenna, global director of Michelin Services and Solutions. “The development of new and enriched services and solutions will open new avenues of growth for our customers and contribute to improved safety, greater sustainability, optimized fleet operations, and a better travel and driving experience. Fleets want to focus on what makes their businesses profitable. Solving the pain points and providing solutions for fleets contributes to their success. Mechanical Care is a tool to help them achieve that goal.”

Headquartered in Greenville, S.C., Michelin North America employs more than 20,000 people and operates 19 major manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Canada.
