Nokian Will Increase Commercial Tire Production Capacity

Dec. 22, 2017

Nokian Tyres plc is increasing production capacity for its Heavy Tyres unit, and will invest about 70 million euro — close to $83.1 million — in the next three years.

The company says the expansion of its factory in Nokia, Finland, will require the addition of approximately 50 employees for its heavy tire production.

"The international heavy tires market has developed positively and our sales have been increasing," says Manu Salmi, vice president for the Nokian Heavy Tyres unit. "We want to support also our customers’ growth by increasing our production capacity in our current factory in Nokia, Finland. Nokia is a natural choice for location due to skilled personnel and capabilities to produce high quality products in the modernized factory."

Nokian's goal is to increase the capacity for heavy tire production from approximately 20 million kg (about 44 million pounds) to 32 million kg (about 70.5 million pounds.)

The company says Nokian Heavy Tyres Ltd. also has signed an agreement with its local labor union that "motivates the personnel to develop multiple skills" so the company can increase its competitiveness through flexibility. This agreement remains in force until the end of 2020.

"We want to grow with focus on customer service, safety and quality. We are taking this important step together with our committed personnel."
