Tire Dealer Turns Tire's Warehouse Winnings Into Hurricane Relief

Nov. 27, 2017

The winner of the largest cash prize at the Tire's Warehouse Inc. Tire One dealer event has donated his winnings to hurricane relief. Cong (John) Ton, owner of Teo Tire Club in Westminster, Calif., donated his $3,000 winnings to the One America Appeal for Hurricane Relief organization. The One America Appeal was launched by America's five living former presidents to encourage support of recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey, Irma and Maria caused massive damage along the Texas Gulf Coast, the Caribbean and Puerto Rico.

In early September, Ton and his wife Yen Nguyen had plans to take a vacation to Miami, Fla. Days before their scheduled departure, however, the news of the hurricanes forced them to cancel their trip. Shortly after, the One America Appeal was announced and Ton immediately wrote a check for $2,000 — the money saved from the canceled vacation — to support the cause.

He also employees and customers to donate as well, and collected even more. “Because of the hurricane, my wife and I lost a vacation. But on the flip side, because of the hurricane, the locals are going to lose their homes and properties. Helping those victims recover is the least I can do.”

All of this occurred two months prior to the Tire’s Warehouse Tire One Dealer Event. Ton had wanted to do more. “When we won the $3,000 prize, it was like a calling,” he said. “With the winnings, we have the opportunity now to do just that.”
