BFS launches new performance tires

Feb. 7, 2001

At a product introduction and ride-and-drive for media in Phoenix, Ariz, Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS) introduced two new Bridgestone passenger tires – the Potenza S-03 Pole Position and the Potenza RE950.

An ultra-high, W- and Y-speed-rated performance tire, the Potenza S-03 Pole Position will be available in May in 51 sizes in 30-, 35-, 40-, 45-, 50- and 55-series aspect ratios for 15- to 20-inch wheel diameters. The tire is targeted toward upscale sports cars drivers and replaces the Potenza S-02 Pole Position tire.

According to BFS officials, this new flagship performance tire will be positioned in the market against the Michelin Pilot and the Pirelli P-Zero. It will be sold worldwide at a price comparable with its predecessor.

The Potenza RE950 will be available in March in 19 sizes in 40- through 65-series aspect ratios for 14- to 17-inch wheel diameters. It replaces the Potenza RE930 and comes with a 40,000- or 45,000-mile limited tread wear warranty, depending on aspect ratio.

Both tires contain BFS’ new Uni-T AQ II technology, the next generation of the company’s Uni-T AQ technology introduced a few years ago.

The Bridgestone Insignia SL, which became available Feb. 1, is a broad market tire available in 29 sizes with S- and T-speed ratings. It is available in 55- to 80-series aspect ratios for 13- to 16-inch wheel diameters.

New sizing was also announced for additional Bridgestone, Firestone, Dayton, Peerless and Gillette passenger and light truck tires.
