Goodyear fine-tunes ultra-high performance tire lines

Feb. 5, 2001

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will expand its ultra-high performance tire offerings in the United States over the next several months.

In March, Goodyear will introduce 11 sizes in the value-priced Eagle HP Ultra Plus line. The company is adding 16- through 20-inch Z-rated sizes.

Goodyear also will expand its Eagle F1 Supercar tire line by four sizes this summer. All four -- 275/40ZR17, 245/45ZR17, 315/35ZR17 and 275/40ZR18 -- are designed for 1988 and newer model Corvettes, including the ZR-1.

The Eagle F1 Supercar tire is original equipment on the 2001 Corvette Z06. The P265/40ZR17 tires on the front and P295/35ZR18 tires on the rear are larger than the Eagle F1 GS EMT run-flat tires on the 2001 Corvette coupe and convertible, according to the company.

"Ultra performance is where we really shine," says Bob Toth, Goodyear's marketing manager of auto tires. "It's a fantastic market to bond with loyal enthusiasts in racing and street performance. It's also the most profitable segment in auto tires."
