TRIB helps ‘Spot the Retreads’ at TMC SuperTech

Oct. 3, 2011

The Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) recently took part in the TMC SuperTech competition. The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) of the American Trucking Association held the TMCSuperTech2011 National Technician Skills Competition Sept. 19-22 in, Raleigh, N.C.

“With the help of our members, we provided four new and four retreaded tires that were used as part of a "Spot the Retreads" component of the competition,” says David Stevens TRIB’s managing director. “Contestants were asked to correctly identify the retreaded tires and also answer questions about load capacity and speed ratings for retreaded tires. We had some quality tires on display given that 54% of the contestants missed at least one of the retreaded tires.”

Stevens says that during the hands-on technical challenge, TRIB invited spectators to "Spot the Retreads" and have a chance to win a set of ATA tire manuals. The spectators fared no better than the contestants with 83% of them missing at least one retreaded tire. It was a great opportunity for TRIB to speak with fleet managers about the utilization of retreaded tires within their tire programs.

TRIB congratulates Jeff Schlecht for winning the TMC SuperTech competition for the second year in a row.
