Wilkes-Barre-based McCarthy Tire Service Co. Inc. has purchased Duncan Brothers Tire Co., a six-location retail and commercial dealer with facilities in Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia.
McCarthy Tire will now operate 37 service centers in seven states along with six retread plants. McCarthy Tire is in the top 10 of Modern Tire Dealer’s Top 100 Retreaders list, at number 9 (see A case for casings).
McCarthy Tire completed four acquisitions last year and this is the first this year. The 85-year-old, family-owned company is currently run by third generation John McCarthy. Duncan Tire is also a family-owned company, and will change to McCarthy Tire beginning May 9, 2011.
