Why Indy car owners gave in to Bridgestone

March 11, 2011

It's not often that meetings among Indy car owners are chronicled. As luck would have it, however, there was a fly on the wall at the recent gathering to decide what to do in the wake of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC's decision to pull out of IndyCar racing.

And the fly was in a talkative mood.

We know the result of the meeting: IndyCar team owners accepted the offer Bridgestone left on the table; the company accepted their acceptance; and Indy cars will ride on Firestone tires through the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series.

(For background, read "We're back! Indy cars WILL run on Firestone tires beyond 2011.")

But why did the team owners change their minds? What did they talk about?

Find out in Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich's latest blog, "What team owners REALLY talked about after Bridgestone pulled out of the IndyCar Series."
