Feb. 18, 2011

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. has won the “Tire Technology of the Year” award for the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice+ tire at the Tire Technology Expo in Cologne, Germany. The tire, which was launched in 2010, was tested by an independent testing organization and rated as “best tire for Nordic winter conditions.”

"This award acknowledges the outstanding performance of the UltraGrip Ice+ tire, but our team can be proud of the innovative technology behind all of our winter tires which were placed as number one in European magazine tests 17 times in 2010,” says Marc Junio, general director of the Goodyear Innovation Center in Luxembourg. “We are delighted with these outstanding test results which confirm our industry-leading role of top performing winter tires. Our team can be proud of their achievement and this award will further boost the motivation and innovative spirit of our development teams”

The tire is designed for the extreme winters of northern Europe, the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia where drivers are often faced with snow-clogged roads. The studless tire was developed at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Luxembourg and features ActiveGrip Technology that combines a dual cap compound with hybrid sipes. The tire’s Dual Cap Compound features a combination of two different types of compounds that enable it to perform in icy and snowy winter conditions, as well as on dry roads at higher temperatures.
