Service Tire Truck Centers buys Perth Amboy Tire

New Jersey.-based Perth Amboy Tire was acquired by Service Tire Truck Centers on Feb. 3, 2011.

Service Tire Truck Centers (STTC) plans to develop the facility into a “supercenter” offering the following:

* drive-in tire service,

* vehicle maintenance for all vehicle class sizes,

* vehicle alignment,

* retail car tire service and

* emergency and scheduled tire road service around the clock.wiht the help of a fleet of 12 commercial tire service vehicles.

Located in Avenel, N.J., Perth Amboy Tire was founded by Dave and Edward Koplowitz in 1960 when they purchased General Tire in nearby Perth Amboy. The company supplies Bandag retreads in New Jersey and was one of the largest Bandag retreaders in the state.

STTC is based in Bethlehem, Pa., and operates 38 locations in eight states with three Michelin Retread Technology facilities that offer both Pre-Mold and Custom Mold retreads. The company said that the customers of Perth Amboy Tire will benefit from its service and product offerings, and also its network of locations throughout the Northeast corridor.

Prior to the purchase, STTC was the 17th largest retreader in the United States, according to Modern Tire Dealer's "Top 100 retreaders" list. It produced 770 truck tire retreads a day.

With the addition of the Perth Amboy plant, which produces an estimated 110 truck tire retreads a day, STTC moves to 16th on the list.
