After 10-months of production, Apollo Tyres’ newest greenfield plant in the southern Indian city of Chennai has produced its millionth passenger vehicle tire – an Apollo Acelere 185/65 R14.

The Chennai facility is the company’s largest and most technologically advanced tire plant. The company has nine manufacturing units globally, four in India.

Chennai was commissioned in a record time of 14 months, and received the necessary certifications and clearances for OE supply in just four months after starting production, the company notes. It is now producing 7,000 passenger vehicle tires and 1,300 truck/bus radials per day.

Satish Sharma, chief, India operations, said, “The Chennai team has done a very commendable job in a short span of time. However, this is just the start of our journey in Chennai. We are confident of achieving many such milestones along the way.”

In another development, Apollo Tyres recently increased its planned investment in another greenfield project, this one in Tamil Nadu, India.
