Goodyear reports July shipment increases, decreases

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s consumer replacement tire and original equipment commercial tire shipments increased last month.

"Driven by continued strength in the dealer channel, Goodyear and Dunlop brand (consumer replacement) tires both gained market share year-over-year," say Goodyear officials.

However, Goodyear's OE consumer tire shipments decreased, which company officials say is "consistent with (Goodyear's) strategy of being selective at OE."

The Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker's operating income also "declined year-over-year due to significantly higher raw material costs. Conversion costs were impacted by lower production volume and higher wage and benefit costs."
