Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country geared for SUVs

SUV and pickup truck drivers will have a new tire choice this September when Michelin North America Inc. launches its Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country product line.

The tire comes with a 60,000-mile treadwear limited warranty and offers improved handling, at an affordable price, says the company.

For dealers, the company adds, the Laredo Cross Country is a high-margin product that fits a broad range of today's most popular SUVs and pickups, including Ford Expedition, Explorer, Escape and F150/250; Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, Blazer, Trailblazer and Silverado; GMC Yukon, Envoy and Sierra; Cadillac Escalade; Jeep Cherokee; Honda Passport; Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota 4Runner.

The new tire will be available in 14 P-metric sizes.

"The Laredo Cross Country was specially designed for today's SUVs and provides a tremendous addition to our light truck tire lineup," says Tim Jamison, Uniroyal brand director.

"We're confident that this exciting new product line will be a tremendous seller for our dealers, especially in today's environment in which so many consumers are looking for value."

In comparison to the Uniroyal Laredo All Season AWP, the new Laredo Cross Country provides improved wear, dry handling and mud traction, while maintaining the AWP's driving comfort, low noise levels and performance in wet and snow conditions, reports the company.

Contributing to the tire's improved wear is a square, stress-optimized contact patch that enhances tread block stability and minimizes surface temperatures. A full tread depth also contributes to the long tread life, as well as enhanced mud traction, the company reports.

Improved dry handling of the Laredo Cross Country results from large, stable tread blocks, increased center rib stiffness, and spiral wound nylon covering two full width steel belts.

The Laredo Cross Country launch will receive strong marketing support, says the company, including media advertising and billboards in select markets, point-of-sale materials and sales aids for dealers.

The ad campaign is promoting the Laredo Cross Country as an "affordable, reliable SUV tire built for everyday adventures," such as "Carpool Canyon" and "Soccer Practice Gulch."
