March 3, 2003

Yokohama Tire Corp.s Salem, Va., passenger and light truck tire manufacturing plant has received ISO 9000-2000 certification.

The certification "is noteworthy in that it replaces earlier ISO 9000 standards and is one of the most important quality standards among companies throughout the world," according to Yokohama officials.

"Not only did we receive certification, but we did it six months ahead of schedule," says Jim Hawk, Yokohama's vice president of manufacturing.

The Salem factory can produce more than 23,000 tires a day at full capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
