Michelin will expand proving ground

Order Reprints

Michelin Tire North America Inc. (MNA) has added 235 acres to its Laurens (S.C.) Proving Grounds and will break ground for new construction at the facility in April.

The new land cost Michelin $1 million and will give the tire testing complex nearly 3,000 acres of space, according to MNA officials.

"This is our first major expansion since we added two tracks in 1995 and 1997," says Mac Demere, Laurens Proving Grounds spokesman.

The facility includes more than a dozen tire testing tracks.
