"There are several issues that demand attention right off the bat," says new Tire Industry Association (TIA) Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield. "The TREAD (Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation) Act, the Right to Repair Act, Superfund regulations -- I'm going to be very involved with all of these things."
Littlefield, who officially starts as TIA's executive vice president on Feb. 14, told mtdealer.com he also will address other legislative issues, including the Federal Highway Bill, which impacts truck tire excise taxes.
Last week, TIA announced it had picked Littlefield to replace Ross Kogel, whose five-year tenure with the association ended this past Saturday.
Littlefield has extensive lobbying experience, having been the International Tire & Rubber Association's director of government affairs from 1984 until the group merged with the Tire Association of North America last summer.
Prior to that, he served in the same capacity with the old National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association.
"These are challenging times for small businesses," Littlefield says. "We have to stick together."
