SEMA Show, Day One: New tool monitors tire tread wear

Nov. 8, 2008

Tire Profiles Inc. and its sister company in the United Kingdom, RL Automotive Ltd., have jointly developed the TAC-Scan tire tread and wear scanner. It will be on display at the TAC-Scan booth, number 40311, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas.

TAC-Scan (for Tread-Analysis-Condition-Scan) features laser diode measurement technology to detect tread problems before the human eye can see them. Through a special laser/software combination (developed from expertise gained in Formula 1 racing, according to Tire Profiles), this laser/software package makes non-contact measurement of tire tread and wear both accurate and reportable.

The unit is battery powered and rechargeable, lightweight and portable. TAC-Scan is designed to be userr-friendly, and not only provides graphic profile reports of scanned treads, but also archives the data.

Tire Profiles expects to distribute TAC-Scan in North America in the first quarter of 2009.
