SEMA Show, Day Three: Hunter introduces a unique commercial wheel balancer

Nov. 6, 2008

Not everything at the 2008 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show is geared solely toward consumer tires. Hunter Engineering Co. introduced an off-the-vehicle wheel balancer designed for Class 6-8 trucks.

The GSP 9600HD ForceMatch wheel balancer uses loaded roller contact to measure runout on a tire and wheel assembly. The "road roller" contacts the entire tire footprint, giving the technician a consistent out-of-roundness measurement.

Other features include an integrated wheel lift system; automatic inner and outer "Double Dataset" arms; and, as an option, Hunter's exclusive HammerHead top-dead-center laser, which the company says speeds clip-weight balancing service.

The unit also can be used to balance passenger and light truck tires, says James Huhn, director of marketing communications.

Hunter's GSP series of wheel balancers features SmartWeight balancing technology, which computes correction weights by independently evaluating static (shake) and couple (shimmy) forces that cause dynamic vibration.

"Most shops will use 30-40% less weight than they were before," says Huhn.
