SEMA Show, Day Two: Falken embraces cold weather with performance winter tire

Nov. 5, 2008

Rather than come in from the cold, the folks at Falken Tire Corp. are embracing it. The new Eurowinter HS439 is on display on the trade show floor at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas this week.

The Eurowinter HS439 was designed to "meet the demands of today's high performance drivers in real world, inclement driving conditions," according to the company. It features a new silica compound that "ensures tread flexibility in cold weather conditions, thus improving winter driving predictability and traction consistency."

The tread pattern has multi-angled sipes that provide traction on both snow and ice, plus circumferential grooves designed to evacuate water, slush and packed snow. Its asymmetric tread pattern helps the tire maintain high-speed stability in dry conditions, which is "necessary for new-generation coupes and touring sedans," adds Falken.

The Eurowinter HS439 is available in more than 30 sizes, including 10 sizes with aspect ratios of 50 or less.

* 40 series: 235/40VR18 and 245/40VR18.

* 45 series: 225/45VRF17, 235/45VR17, 245/45VR17 and 245/45VR18.

* 50 series: 205/50VR17, 225/50VR17, 235/50VR18 and 255/50VR19.

The complete size lineup ranges from 40 series to 70 series (175/70TR13 and 235/70HR16).

The Eurowinter HS439 is a "performance winter" tire, which the company says makes up more than 50% of the winter tire market.
