2015 SEMA Show, Day 1: Cooper Showcases Key Product Lineup

Nov. 3, 2015

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is showcasing its top tires at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas going on now through Nov. 6.

“We know that no one tire can satisfy the needs of every driver, so we offer tires that deliver the best in performance and value no matter the vehicle type, road or weather condition,” says Jessica Egerton, Cooper’s director of brand development. “From the launches of the new Discoverer SRX sport utility and cross-over vehicle tire and the new Discoverer STT Pro off-road tire to the continued success of the CS5 Touring tire, and now, our new CS1 for Mexico and Latin America, we are excited to showcase all that Cooper has to offer.”

* Discoverer STT Pro -- The new Discoverer STT Pro off-road tire provides reliability and durability with Armor-Tek3 construction that adds strength to the sidewall and tread area, and mud release dimples and scoops that prevent build-up and improve traction in super sloppy conditions.

The STT Pro proved its worth in The Off-Road Championship (TORC) series in 2015, helping TORC PRO Light driver Doug Mittag secure a championship title and driver Luke Johnson earn a second place finish on the Discoverer STT Pro tires, says Cooper.

Show attendees can see the tires on Mittag’s championship truck on display in the Cooper booth (#43019 in the South Hall) and can also talk with TORC drivers about how the STT Pro holds up in competitive off-road racing.

* Discoverer SRX -- An automotive trends and purchasing habits survey of more than 500 American consumers commissioned by Cooper earlier this year revealed that even in an era of fuel economy, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and cross-over utility vehicles (CUVs) are still highly popular, with 67% of U.S. households driving an SUV or CUV. With a recently expanded size range, the Discoverer SRX meets the unique needs of these vehicles.

The Discoverer SRX provides the heightened comfort, performance and tread life that drivers need in all seasons. The SRX provides dependable all-season highway traction, superior handling and a quiet, comfortable ride for a wide range of CUVs and SUVs.

Delivering road surface grip for traction in wet weather conditions and light snow, the SRX also carries a 65,000-mile tread wear protection warranty and a 45-day road test guarantee.

* CS5 Touring -- The CS5 Touring delivers optimum all-season performance targeted for drivers of modern sedans and SUVs. With an enhanced tread compound, combined with an asymmetric tread design, patented Stabiledge technology and specially developed 3D Micro-Gauge sipes, the CS5 delivers a crisp steering response, controlled handling around corners and superior wet handling, shortening stopping distance and lowering rolling resistance for improved fuel mileage. In a certified third party independent test evaluating wet braking distance, the CS5 Ultra Touring stopped more than 15 feet shorter than the closest competitor, the company says.

Designed with drivers in mind, the CS5 gives consumers a convenient way to gauge the amount of wear on the tread of their tires with Cooper’s Wear Square visual tread wear indicator. The Wear Square transitions between five stages, beginning with a full square on new tires and ending with an exclamation point when the tread reaches 2/32s of an inch, indicating it’s time to replace the tire.

The CS5 Touring T-speed-rated sizes offer an 80,000-mile premium limited warranty, the H- and V-rated sizes have a 60,000-mile warranty and the W-rated touring sizes come with a 50,000-mile warranty, in addition to a 45-day road test guarantee.

* CS1 Touring — Exclusive to Mexico and Latin America. The CS1 is a new all-season passenger tire that is based on proven Cooper technology and will be sold exclusively in Mexico and Latin America beginning in the first quarter of 2016.

The CS1 features a solid shoulder to provide cornering stability, four extra-wide circumferential grooves to resist hydroplaning, optimal siping, and a solid center rib for consistent on-center feel and steering response. The tire is designed with a stylized sidewall that carries the consistent Cooper passenger tire look. The CS1 delivers a smooth, quiet ride and will be available in 25 T-rated sizes and 13 H-rated sizes.
