Hankook's newest Ventus tire: the Prime3

Sept. 17, 2015

Hankook Tire Co. Ltd. is revealing the next generation of its Ventus line, the Ventus Prime3, at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany.

Balancing performance and safety, the Ventus Prime3 features superior handling and braking performance on dry surfaces as well as enhanced performance capability in wet conditions. Hankook says the new Ventus series is a significant improvement over its predecessor. The tires will be available in a range of sizes from 15 to 18 inches.

The company says the most significant step forward for the Ventus Prime3 is the progress made in the tire’s dry handling performance capabilities. By applying the company’s optimized design technology, the tire’s enhanced tread block stiffness increases the actual contact area ratio. In addition, the dual stiffness of the rib and the solid outside block provide further stability and superior handling performance while the rib tread simultaneously improves the tire’s rolling resistance.

Improving the tire’s braking performance in wet conditions was the next pivotal point where the company sought to make progress when developing the next generation of Ventus Prime products. The implementation of a wide four-channel groove allows for rapid drainage, increasing driver control during wet conditions. The depth of each groove is determined by its position on the tire in order to ensure that the tire remains balanced and is capable of delivering an excellent performance in both wet and dry conditions.

The addition of noise care pitch and the optimized lateral groove angle lower the amount of exterior noise created by the tires. The tires also feature an Visual Alignment Indicator (VAI) system on the shoulders which provides drivers with a simple and straightforward method for checking tire alignment.

Hankook says the wide steel belt layer and high stiffness bead of the Ventus Prime3 contributes to better handling and steering response on both dry and wet roads. Also, the tire’s high grip silica compound improves dry and wet traction as well as rolling resistance.

“By focusing on both performance and safety, our new Ventus Prime3 gives drivers access to some of the tire industry’s most remarkable advancements,” says Seung Hwa Suh, CEO and vice chairman of Hankook. “The company’s dedication to continuous R&D investment has helped us to carve out a name for ourselves as a global leader in tire technology. We look forward to presenting these tires and the rest of our groundbreaking line-up at the upcoming IAA Motor Show.”
