Goodyear will idle truck tire production

Oct. 27, 2008

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will temporarily idle commercial truck tire production at its Danville, Va., and Topeka, Kan., plants for two weeks in November and December.

The Danville plant will be idled starting on Nov. 8 and Dec. 6, while the Topeka plant will be idled starting on Nov. 3 and Dec. 1.

"The Danville plant will continue to run aircraft tires during those weeks," says a Goodyear spokesperson. "The Topeka plant will continue to run off-the-road tires during those periods."

The Danville factory can produce 11,200 truck tires per day at full capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer research. Topeka can produce 5,500 truck tires at capacity.

Goodyear is idling the plants to align production with "reduced consumer demand."
