McCarthy acquires Ragan Tire

June 23, 2015

Pennsylvania-based McCarthy Tire Service Co. is expanding yet again, as the company says it has signed an agreement to purchase one of its competitors, Ragan Tire Group LLC.

Ragan Tire Group, based in Concord, N.C., provides off-the-road (OTR) tires and tire service to heavy construction, quarrying and mining customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. This marks McCarthy's third acquisition thus far in 2015. McCarthy is the sixth largest commercial tire dealer in the U.S. and the seventh largest retreader in the U.S. McCarthy holds the No. 22 spot on the MTD 100.

“Ragan Tire Group is one of the premier off-the-road (OTR) service companies in the Southeast,” says John McCarthy Jr., president of McCarthy Tire Service. “When we combine our companies, McCarthy Tire Service will be one of the largest OTR service providers on the East Coast.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to provide unparalleled service to OTR customers.”

McCarthy Tire says Ragan Tire Group’s operations in North Carolina will be merged into four of McCarthy Tire’s eight locations in the state. The acquisition will add three locations in South Carolina and one location in Georgia to McCarthy Tire’s footprint, expanding it to a total of 49 service facilities in nine states.

Additionally, McCarthy Tire says all of Ragan's service and operational employees, including Ty Smith, will join the McCarthy Tire team. Smith will oversee the combined OTR operations in the southeast.

“We are excited Ragan Tire Group is joining McCarthy Tire Service,” says Smith. “Both of our companies’ core value is to service our customers to the best of our ability. We now can do this from New York State to Georgia."

The closing date for the deal is scheduled for mid July.
