Mitas signs deal with giant tractor maker

May 12, 2015

Mitas Tires North America Inc. has signed a long-term agreement with CNH Industrial N.V.’s NAFTA group for the delivery of Mitas premium agricultural tire and GKN wheel assemblies for their new Air Cart models produced at their Saskatoon plant in Canada. CNH brands include Case IH and New Holland tractors.

Mitas will source, mount and deliver the complete wheel assembly from its plant in Charles City, Iowa. Mitas will deliver tires in six different tread designs and eight dimensions and various wheels and colors to support CNH’s new Air Cart product offering.

The key size that will comprise a significant volume of these assemblies is the Mitas 800/70R38 178D/181A8 CHO SFT, which weighs almost 1,500 lbs. between tire and wheel components. Mitas says its Mitas CHO (Cyclic Harvesting Operation) solves the increasing need for soil protection. Compared with a standard tire, the CHO tire provides much more load capacity at lower inflation pressure. For example, the 800/70 R 32 CHO provides an advantage of up to 31% reduction in inflation pressure at the same load compared to the standard tire. This lower inflation pressure results in the larger footprint of up to 24%.

“Depending on the current and future market conditions, we are talking about thousands of tires to be delivered to the CNHI plant in Saskatoon,” says Gregory Gilland, OE key accounts director for Mitas. “We are diversifying our portfolio with CNHI by engaging other platforms outside of motorized vehicles such as tractors or combines where our tires can continue to deliver a major performance difference.”

Steve Timmons, senior director of global marketing for Case New Holland, says, “Mitas’ superior product performance, quality, service, and competitive pricing won our trust. We continue to extend our cooperation with Mitas in the North American market."

Mitas tires mounted on the new CNHI Air Carts are intended mainly for the North American market, but also will be exported to other agricultural markets where large-scale small-grain operations take place. Besides assemblies, Mitas will be responsible for managing the sourcing of the wheels, color selection for the Case IH and New Holland brands, wheel position, and timely delivery to meet CNHI’s production needs.
