Oct. 9, 2008

American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has expanded its reach across Texas and Oklahoma with the acquisition of Fort Worth, Texas-based Remington Tire Distributors dba Gray's Wholesale Tire Distributors.

Gray's Wholesale operates distribution centers in Fort Worth and Houston, Texas. The two centers ship to more than 3,000 customers.

"ATD began servicing tire retailers across Texas and Oklahoma in July 2004," says ATD Chairman and CEO Dick Johnson. "Since that time, we have invested in our facilities, our people and our customers and, as a result, we have gained new customers and market share.

"The acquisition of Gray's is another investment that will enable ATD to better serve our customers in these two states."

Gray's Wholesale was founded by Harold Gray in 1975. His son, Steve Gray, has been chairman of the company since 1988. He will join ATD and will help the company with customer development.

"One of the things we do that is unique to tire distribution in Texas is state and local government contract business," says Gray. "We have been doing it for more than a decade.

"We can bring a lot to the table in that end of the business, and I'm going to work in that area for sure."

ATD has 80 distribution centers that service 36 states.
