Longtime industry veteran Fino dies at 81

Carl Fino, a longtime veteran of the tire industry, died in his sleep on Feb. 4, 2015, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, Pa. He was 81.

Fino held management positions with several tire manufacturers, most recently with Giti Tire (USA) Ltd., from where he retired in 2006. He also also worked for Semperit of America Inc. and the former General Tire & Rubber Co.

He was born in the Newtown section of Hanover Township, Pa., on July 1, 1933, the son of the late Carl J. and Emma (Reed) Fino Sr. After serving in the United States Navy, Fino Jr. received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from King's College, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He also received numerous achievement certificates in the tire industry.

Fino served as president in the Kiwanis Club of Williamsport, Pa., and as a school board member of the Loyalsock School District. He was an avid Pennsylvania State University and the University of Southern California college football fan. His favorite pastime was reading.

Preceding him in death was his sister, Judy Patte, who died on Aug. 1, 2004. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, the former Jayne Smith; his sons, Mark Fino and his companion, Laurie Lennon, Gregg Fino (Nanette) and Jeff Fino (Diane); three grandchildren, Ruby, Ella and Tony Fino; a brother, Bob Fino (Joan); a sister, Rose Mary Finn (Don); a brother-in-law, Patrick Patte; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 9. Private interment will be held at a later date. The George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
