Purcell opens first Kansas City location

Feb. 4, 2015

Purcell Tire & Rubber Co. has opened a commercial service center in Kansas City, Mo. It is the company’s first outlet in Kansas City and ninth store in Missouri.

The company purchased an existing building and converted it to a full-service commercial tire store. The 8,000-square-foot facility has three service bays and seven employees. The store is managed by Richard Kerber, who most recently served as off road tire manager for Cross-Midwest Tire Co., which is based in Kansas City.

The new outlet offers retreading services for off road, medium truck and light truck tires. The facility will carry a large inventory of light truck, commercial, industrial and off-the-road tires. The store provides 24/7 roadside service. Three of the store’s four new service trucks are boom trucks.

Kansas City is a natural expansion due to Purcell’s locations in Springfield and Joplin and its truck and OTR retread plant in nearby Potosi, Mo., according to CEO Roger Lucas. “Kansas City is a strong off road and truck market. It allows us to solidify our presence as a strong Midwest truck dealer.”

Lucas says Purcell will hire a person dedicated to truck tire sales at the Kansas City location in February.

Purcell Tire was established in 1936. The family-owned business now operates more than 70 service locations nationwide along with five tire retread plants. The company provides services and retreading for consumer, commercial, industrial and mining vehicles. It is No. 14 on the MTD 100.
