The Tire Society hosts 27th annual conference

Sept. 15, 2008

Day one of the 27th annual Meeting and Conference on Tire Science and Technology, hosted by The Tire Society, opened with sessions on tire wear and friction and vehicle dynamics.

The first session, chaired by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s John Luchini, featured presentations by engineers from Continental AG, Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. and TRC Inc.

The second session, chaired by Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC's Terrence Wei, featured presentations by Continental and Tandy Engineering & Associates Inc. Presenting authors Burkhard Wies and Martin Giessler from Continental spoke on winter tires.

Dr. Wies, vice president of replacement passenger and light truck tire line development worldwide, specifically addressed the relationship among operating conditions, winter tire characteristics and vehicle driving behavior.

"Temperature influences the cornering stiffness significantly by changes in material properties and rubber stiffness," he summerized.

The three-day event, held in conjunction with the International Tire Exhibition and Conference at the John S. Knight Center in Akron, Ohio, already is accepting papers for the 28th annual Meeting and Conference on Tire Science and Technology.
