Oct. 31, 2019

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is conducting joint research and development on passenger car tire sensors with Alps Alpine Co. Ltd.

Alps Alpine develops electronic information and communication components.

The goal, according to Yokohama officials, is to develop a solution "that uses digital tools to process and manage data about tire wear and road surface conditions and applications that provide data obtained from tires to drivers and certain other parties. Such systems and apps are widely expected to add value to new tire business."

Yokohama says it was the first tire manufacturer in Japan to develop a tire pressure monitoring system for cars in 2004.

The company showcased a number of new connected technologies at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.
