CITEXPO Welcomes Algeria's Lone Tire Maker

July 19, 2019

Among the exhibitors at China International Tire Expo (CITEXPO) will be the only tire maker in Algeria. Iris Tyre operates a $250 miillion fully automated tire plant that's producing 1 million passenger tires in its first year of operation. Eurl Saterex-Iris, an Algerian consumer electronics and household appliances company, founded Iris Tyre in Sétif, Algeria, about 180 miles east of the capital city, where Michelin Group once operated a tire factory. Michelin Group closed the plant in 2013.

“The Algerian market consumes more than 7 million tires a year and the products currently imported are generally of poor quality," says Yacine Guidoum, managing director of Eurl Saterex-Iris. "This represents a fantastic opportunity to repeat our manufacturing success in another sector. As well as producing locally-branded tires to meet Algerian demand, we will be exporting about a third of our output to European and African markets.” The company says the plant, outfitted by a Finnish automation company, CImcorp Oy, is the largest tire plant in Africa. It began operating in spring 2018. In its second year the company expects to produce 2 million units, including both passenger and truck and bus tires.

"We are very honored to have Iris to pick China International Tire Expo to demonstrate their new, high-quality products to not only Chinese distributors, but also importers from around 110 countries,” says Sam Lai, international marketing manager of CITEXPO's organizer, Reliable International Exhibition Services. "It showed that our show is one of the best platforms for up-and-coming new brands to gain quick access and publicity to the worldwide market."

CITEXPO 2019 will be held Aug. 19-21, 2019, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.
