Bridgestone Americas Inc. has stepped up its focus on fuel efficiency with the R284 Ecopia tire, a steer tire that offers a 5% improvement in rolling resistance compared to its predecessor. The R284 Ecopia is SmartWay-verified and engineered for top notch performance in both long haul and regional service applications. The tire offers fuel efficiency plus a long tread life. Bridgestone says it's the tire's tread compound, which features NanoPro-Tech polymer technology, the provides the boost in rolling resistance compared to the Ecopia R283A steer tire.

The R284 Ecopia's key features include:
- an IntelliShape sidewall designed with a slim bead to reduce tire weight and minimize rolling resistance.
- a proprietary Fuel Saver Sidewall compound works with the NanoPro-Tech polymer technology to reduce energy loss, which improves fuel economy.
- an optimized tread depth and width help maximize tread volume while Defense Side Grooves within the tread pattern help minimize shoulder wear for long original life.
- equalizer Ribs incorporated into the tread absorb irregular wear and promote higher removal mileage.
