Unimax and Point S Are Winners in Canada

March 14, 2019

For the second straight year, Unimax Tire Ltd., the company that markets the Point S brand in Canada, has been named one of the Best Managed Companies in Canada.

The list is made up of Canadian owned and managed businesses with revenues of more than $15 million. The honorees demonstrate strategy, capability and a commitment to achieve sustained growth.

Three years ago Unimax shifted its focus to retail and joined the global Point S network. There are 215 Point S locations in Canada. Unimax manages a total of seven retail banners, and in all has more than 850 independent tire dealers and automotive service locations that sell more than three million tires a year.

Unimax also manages a distribution network for its dealers. The company says its growth has given it more purchasing power, and dealers have improved the customer experience.

“It’s much more than just financial performance,” says Peter Brown, co-leader of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and a Deloitte Private partner. “The ingredients to success also include overall business performance and sustained growth. It takes dedication and commitment from the entire organization.”

Companies who apply for Canada's Best Managed Companies designation are judged by an independent panel. The 2019 designees "share commonalities that include a clear strategy and vision, investment in capability, and commitment to talent."

Bruno Leclair, CEO and president of Point S Canada/Unimax Tire, says, “We’re upgrading our network and now have auto centers in seven different Canadian provinces. In addition to Point S, we’ve launched two other tire and automotive service banners—V1 and Otobox—that each address specific needs among our customers. Standardizing our network makes it much easier for customers to find what they need."

Globally, Point has more than 4,100 retail stores in 34 countries, including 200+ in the U.S.
