Nokian buys Vermont's Goss Tire

Oct. 26, 2007

Nokian Tyres plc has acquired Goss Tire Co., a long-time independent Nokian tire dealership with six stores. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Vermont-based Goss Tire, which opened more than 100 years ago, has stores throughout its home state and upstate New York.

In addition to Nokian brand tires, Goss Tire also sells Bridgestone, Firestone and Dayton brand products. (Bridgestone Corp. owns nearly 19% of Nokian, which operates a North American office in LaVergne, Tenn.)

The deal marks Nokian's second acquisition of an independent tire dealership in two years. In September 2005, the Finnish company purchased Colchester, Vt.-based University Wholesalers Inc., one of its major distributors in North America.
