FTS recall will start early next month

July 25, 2007

Foreign Tire Sales Inc. (FTS) owner Richard Kuskin says his company will probably start its recall of some 250,000 Chinese-made light truck tires before Aug. 11.

"The law says you have to do it in a reasonable amount of time, which is about two months from when you write to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) that there's a defect," he recently told moderntiredealer.com.

FTS filed a Defect and Non-Compliance Report with NHTSA on June 11. NHTSA is still reviewing FTS' recall plan, which was submitted several weeks ago.

FTS says the tires, which were manufactured by Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co. Ltd., are defective.
