To protect consumers' rights and ensure that vehicles remain as safe as possible, Representative Vincent Pedone (D-Worcester) has introduced House Bill 296, The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, in Massachusetts.
Stan Morin, director of the campaign for the Right to Repair Act in Massachusetts, praised Rep. Pedone on behalf of motoring consumers and small businesses. "Rep. Pedone's legislation is paramount in protecting consumers from the road blocks placed in the way of repairing their vehicles."
The legislation is designed to give motorists the ability to choose where, how and by whom they get their vehicles repaired, "ensuring competitive pricing, quick, affordable repairs and cleaner-running vehicles," according to the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The Right to Repair Act also is supported by the American Automobile Association (AAA), the National Federation of Independent Business, RetireSafe (which represents 400,000 seniors nationwide) and the National Grange, among others.
According to Pedone, the Massachusetts General Court's Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure will conduct a public hearing on House Bill 296 on June 26, 2007, at the State House in Boston.
